Every Member is a Minister
“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.” Romans 12:4-6a (NLT)
The apostle Paul wrote the above words to the early church in Rome, the capital of the great Roman Empire, to a congregation made up of mostly gentiles. It is possible that some of those early church congregants were also witnesses when the Holy Spirit was poured out and tongues were spoken (Acts 2:10). They were forever changed by what their eyes saw, and their ears heard: the saving gospel of Jesus Christ! And while we do not know how many there were that day or their names, their hearts were set ablaze with the message they had witnessed. Paul is encouraging them and reminding them that they are all important parts of the body of Christ. The apostle is reminding them and us that as members of the body of Christ we are also ministers and are equally important. We need each other!
I am so grateful for our Adult Choir, many who were here long before I arrived. And I am so grateful because they have continually allowed me to serve alongside them, do life together, and encourage our church body with music and worship for our Sunday morning services. I am also grateful for our section leaders who oversee each vocal section and help with organization, administration, and pastoral care. The worship ministry belongs to every member of our worship community. Too many times we make it about one pastor or person. And too many pastors and leaders make it about themselves. This is selfish and has no room in the body of Christ. And while God has gifted me this great privilege in this season for the care of each worship community member, I could not do this without everyone who serves. Our pianists are also a vital part of this as they bring each word and lyric to life with the music of their hands and hearts. To God be the glory!
Join us starting Thursday, September 1st, at 5:30pm in Room 11 as we kick off our new choir season. Let us continue partnering together as we transform Oceanside with the hope of Jesus Christ in 2022. Would you reach out to me personally and help go into the community to share the hope of Jesus Christ? Here is my phone number and email: (760) 726-0590, email@example.com.
