“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
I want to encourage you with some of the wonderful things God is doing at Lighthouse:
• 16 people have been baptized into Christ in the last 6 weeks, praise God! Eight of those were baptized at our Beach Day service in August, two more were a father and son baptized at a service in September, another was a teen baptized by her father at the end of our Basics class, another was a young woman brought by a friend to our Tuesday night youth group, and then there was a young Marine, a young woman, a child coming of age, an older woman, and two twin girls planning for next Sunday. Each of these is a reason to celebrate, as God has been at work in each of their lives. It’s great to be a part of a church where baptisms are regularly taking place!
• Our Fall Kick-off was a great success! 530 people came to worship with Roddy Chong, the most in 3½ years (other than Easter and Christmas). Coca-cola came through with 500 donated drinks, in addition to the ones our generous members donated. Our Sunday classes, midweek Growth Groups, and ministries are off and running with much enthusiasm and support. Our Wed. night program has grown to over 40 women in the Women’s study, over 30 men in the Real Men study, and over 20 kids & adults in our Just For Kids program, about 100 in all. MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers) has grown to 21 moms now, up from 4 just a few years ago. There is still room for you and your friends in our ministries, but we praise God for the good growth we are seeing!
• Our church refresh is making good progress. Our sanctuary, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and hallways have all been re-painted in fresh colors, everything except the sanctuary ceiling, which will be repainted next week (thanks to an extension payment from our property buyers). The sanctuary got new laminate on the front and back walls, with a beautiful design around the cross, and our front desk and inside sanctuary corners have new laminate and a stone counter-top. The outside railings, wrought iron, and metal facing on our building have all been re-painted, and also the wooden ramp and railings to our office trailer. Our sanctuary stage is being re-carpeted this week, and the red curbs on our fire lanes are to be repainted this Friday. In 2 weeks, our sanctuary floor & offices will get new carpet tiles, then the remaining classrooms will get new vinyl tile. All this repainting and re-flooring will require us to stack, move, and return all the sanctuary chairs for the next 2 weeks, so if you can help with that (or with the Bibles and materials that must be removed and returned each week), join us after church about noon this Sunday or next (Oct. 10 & 17), or from 10-noon on Saturdays (Oct. 16 & 23) to put everything back. It will be nice when our interior is finished, with a new baptistry, lighting, and some exterior projects to come. None of this would be possible if it were not for our church’s ongoing giving to our Renew the Church fund (currently at $107,206 toward our $200,000 goal).
• 29 of our Youth & Adults had a Fall Retreat last weekend at Palomar Christian Conference Center. Many thanks to Jeff & Sylvia Roddy, Joey & Diana DeLao, and the other young adult leaders who took our students on a great retreat where they grew closer to God, to one another, and in “Walking in Holiness.” So happy for you all!
We praise God for all these blessings and invite your participation & support!
